Therapy for Anxious High-Achieving Women in Lincoln Park

Welcome to Belonging Psychotherapy. Whatever challenges have led you here, I’m truly glad you’ve found this space. I created Belonging Psychotherapy out of a deep passion for helping people heal, grow, and live more authentically.

If you feel like anxiety has taken over your life, you’re facing challenges in your relationships, or you’re navigating a big transition, you’re not alone—and you’re in the right place. Together, we’ll gently uncover the patterns and underlying factors contributing to your struggles, empowering you to make meaningful changes and cultivate greater peace and fulfillment.

I specialize in supporting anxious, high-achieving women in their twenties and beyond.  This can mean capable, driven women early in their careers and those who have made it to the top of their industry. If that resonates with you, you’ve found a place where you belong.

Common Challenges

I help women with many challenges along their path to healing and growth, including:

Therapy Rooted in Connection

In my practice, building a strong, trusting relationship is at the heart of the work. I want you to feel safe, supported, and understood as we explore your unique story. My approach is warm and interactive, grounded in client-centered care—meaning I deeply value your perspective and lived experience.

As someone who has experienced anxiety, I get the impact that it can have on your ability to function and live life enjoyably. You want to connect; you want to perform your best at work, but this thing- anxiety- feels like a barrier to you being able to do that. I want to help you change your relationship with anxiety and learn to navigate it, rather than spend all of your energy fighting it.

Our sessions are a space for you to slow down and breathe, away from the busyness of life in Chicago. Here, we can take our time learning about what activates your anxiety and provide you with the grounding you need to find clarity and resilience.

My Approach

I draw on a variety of evidence-based therapies to help you create lasting change, including:
For clients whose past trauma feels like a barrier to growth, I also offer Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). EMDR can help release painful memories and self-defeating beliefs, allowing you to move forward with more freedom.

About Me

My name is Tanya Schoettler, and I’ve been a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor for more than 10 years. I hold a Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology from Northwestern University and specialized training in EMDR, ACT, and CBT.

I’ve contributed to resources like the Today Show’s Mind & Body section, and I am passionate about supporting women who struggle with anxiety, perfectionism, imposter syndrome, and stage-of-life challenges. Nothing fulfills me more than helping women discover their courage, find meaningful connections, and embrace a life filled with authenticity and belonging.

I am licensed to practice in Illinois and Minnesota. Though I currently live in MN with my husband and two kids, having lived in the Lakeview and Lincoln Park neighborhoods for over 9 years, Chicago holds a special place in my heart.  If you’re a twenty-something trying to figure out your professional and personal life in the big city, I would love to help.
